I just came across this article and thought that I would post it, in the hopes of getting more people to see the pictures of the children. In my last article, "I just looked away for a second.." I talked about how crucial time is when looking for missing children, as well as the importance of pictures. Once again, statistics from the National Institute For Missing and Exploited Children state that one in six missing children who are found, are found as a direct result of someone... more

I have been asked by many people why they cannot adoptive a Native American child, but I can.

I look "white", I sound "white", I act "white"...so what makes me so special?

I am a registered Cherokee Indian, and have enlistment on the Western Cherokee rolls in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

In the past, many Native American children were losing their identities. It was considered "filth" to be Native, and those unfortunate people that listened to the stereotypes dis-enrolled from their tribes.

Then, before tribes were able to support themselves, a LOT of tribes... more

Keeping kids safe is a hard job. Between violence on the streets, tv, and video games. Drugs sweeping through our streets, and the recent added threat of terrorism, parents can find themselves overwhelmed as to how to keep their beloved little ones, and not so little ones, safe from harm.

Yet with all of the new issues of today to worry about, lets not forget what is lingering in our very own homes, and sometimes, under our very, own, kitchen sinks! Chemicals, chemical, chemical, they are everywhere and in everything! If we aren’t worry about the younger ones... more

Switching Countries

Today I am reading many message board posts from potential adoptive parents considering switching countries. The current dilemna is a large delay in the China program which is being experienced by all agencies as the CCAA (the Chinese governmental unit that controls adoptions) treats all agencies the same. Not long ago, the wait from your dossier being "logged in" over in China to your referral was about six months. Now, the wait has climbed to over ten months, and agencies are speculating the wait will grow as long as 12-18 months.... more

How many times have tearful parents, woefully expressed those words in utter shock and sadness, while pleading on television for the safe return of their missing child? Time is the most important factor when dealing with a missing child. While reports state that missing children are rarely murdered, those that are murdered, have very little time to be found according to this recent study:

According to a 1997 study by the State of Washington’s Office of the Attorney General “the murder of a child who is abducted ... is a rare event. There... more

I have decided on a new “thread” on this blog. I am going to start a list of options of programs and countries, etc. that are available to people who are open to or looking to adopt transracially.

I will present basic information on domestic adoption options as well as international adoption options. In each post I will focus on one program and give the basics on things such as parent requirements, what the process is like, what the children who are available are like, what the average fees involved are, cultural information, some of the agencies with programs in that country and then some resources to find more information.

As of right now I am planning on covering foster... more

You! Go read some Ma Jian.

Who is he? Here's an interview in The Guardian from when his novel The Noodle Maker was just released. And here's a more recent profile, with him kvetching about the new "controversial" writers in mainland China. And here's a taste of what his travelogue/memoir Red Dust is like. It's... more

Foster Care in New York City

I know that Anna's first foster family became resource parents through their church, which was affiliated with a religious organization that helps people to become foster parents. In the Christian world, I have found many religious organizations that are also involved in foster care or adoptive services. Not so much in the Jewish world - probably because we only make up about two to three percent of the United States. But here is one example of a good organization to know about in the New York area. I have heard of some people actually adopting from this organization, but typically it seems to be just foster care.

In one of my earlier posts, I gave a list of books for adults and children. One that I cannot one of my earlier posts, believe I left off of the children’s list is "Little Miss Spider," by David Kirk. If you are unfamiliar with the Little Miss Spider books, they are a series of books featuring a bug family made up of all different types of bugs. It is also now an animated television show on Nick Jr.

In some of the books and on the television show, Miss Spider... more

Really? Yep! A couple hoping to adopt, was denied the opportunity to become foster parents. The couple in their 40's were hoping to foster or adopt a child so their ten-year-old son would have a sibling. But, get this, The couple in the UK was denied the ability to become foster parents because they didn't eat meat - they are vegetarians.

Here we are discussing important weighty issues like gay adoption, single family adoption, children languishing in foster care, and now this. I can picture the headline now :

No child for meatless home - Couple told to slaughter... more
