Russia Education and Science Ministry Considering Changes
On Wednesday, Miles Harrison was acquitted of any wrongdoing the death of his adopted Russian-born son, Chase, who died of heatstroke after being left in the car unattended in front of Mr. Harrison's workplace. In recent years, the death of Russian-born adopted children has had far reaching implications on the process of adoptions in Russia as well as Russia's willingness to continue to work with families from the U.S. who are interested in adopting one of the thousands of children currently living in orphanages throughout Russia. This recent case is no different. Change in Ukrainian Adoption Regulations
Effective December 1, 2008 Resolution #905 went into effect in Ukraine. The Resolution, which was introduced to new regulation for adoptions and the protection of rights for adopted children, sets regulations which govern the registration of abandoned children at the local, regional and central levels. In addition to the changes made regarding registration of abandoned children, it also describes the process for both domestic and intercountry adoptions. Kyrgyzstan Adoption Warning from the Department of State
As if International Adoption wasn't difficult enough, a new warning was posted on the Department of States website yesterday about the status of adoptions from Kyrgyzstan. The Department of State (DOS) is now recommending that U.S. Citizens not move forward with adoptions from this Eastern European country. According to contacts in country, no cases are being processed at this time and the Government in Kyrgyzstan isn't offering any insight into the reason behind this recent turn of events.
